چکیده

Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) surfaces can be non-uniform and defined for any degree, but existing subdivision surfaces are either uniform or of fixed degree. The resulting incompatibility forms a barrier to the adoption of subdivision for ComputerAided Design. In this talk I will discuss our work towards a superset of NURBS which can handle irregularities in the control mesh. We call this target NURBS-compatible subdivision, as the resulting scheme would be able to represent any existing NURBS patch exactly. I will outline our strategy, discuss work which is already complete [1,2], and look at the challenges which lie ahead.

Approximation Order Equivalence Properties of Manifold-Valued Data Subdivision Schemes

There has been an emerging interest in developing an approximation theory for manifold-valued functions. In this paper, we address the following fundamental problem: Let M be a manifold with a metric d. For each smoothness factor r > 0 and approximation order R > 0, is there an approximation operator Ah = Ah;r,R that maps samples of any f : R→ M on a grid of size h to an approximant fh = Ah(f |...

Multivariate refinable Hermite interpolant

We introduce a general definition of refinable Hermite interpolants and investigate their general properties. We also study a notion of symmetry of these refinable interpolants. Results and ideas from the extensive theory of general refinement equations are applied to obtain results on refinable Hermite interpolants. The theory developed here is constructive and yields an easyto-use constructio...

REVERSE LOOP SUBDIVISION FOR GEOMETRY AND TEXTURES

Reverse subdivision aims at constructing a coarser representation of an object given by a fine polygon mesh. In this paper, we first derive a mask for reverse Loop subdivision that can be applied to both regular and extraordinary vertices. The mask is parameterized, and thus can also be used in reversing variants of Loop subdivision, such as those proposed by Warren and Litke. We apply this mas...

Successive Refinement on Trees: A Special Case of a New MD Coding Region

New achievability results for the L-stage successive refinement problem with L > 2 are presented. These are derived from a recent achievability result for the more general problem of multiple description coding with L > 2 channels. It is shown that successive refinability on chains implies successive refinability on trees and that memoryless Gaussian sources are successively refinable on chains...
